This program will provide an overview of DAFs with its benefits & drawbacks & how the Pension Protection Act has increased IRS enforcement & compliance on charitable organizations and clients' philanthropic objectives.
Speakers: Eric La'a, Philanthropy Advisor and Jen-L Lyman, Senior Director of Gift Planning & Advisor Relations
Eric has been a part of Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) since 2013. He started as the Scholarship Officer overseeing the administration of the Scholarship Program and working with donors who wish to support the post-secondary goals of Hawaii’s students. Currently, in his role as Philanthropy Advisor he works with individuals, families and businesses align their philanthropic interests and motivations to the causes they care about the most. Prior to joining HCF, he worked as a Development Officer at Hawaii Baptist Academy.
Jen-L W. Lyman joined the Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) in 2017. She leads HCF’s Professional Advisor and Gift Planning Programs working closely with advisors and their clients in development, building relationships, legacies, and planned giving. Prior to joining HCF, Jen-L was Vice President and Team Leader with First Hawaiian Bank’s Personal Trust Division, associate attorney at the law firm Stirling & Kleintop, and law clerk to Justice Robert G. Klein on the Hawai’i Supreme Court.
